The Ministry of Health has recommended public and private institutions in Kosovo to implement protective measures to protect workers from high temperatures in the period July 22-25.
The Ministry has based these recommendations on the guidelines of the National Institute of Public Health (NIPHK).
The ministry's announcement mentioned that high temperatures negatively affect human health, especially the most sensitive groups of society, such as: children, the elderly, pregnant women, people with chronic diseases, as well as workers who work in open environments or in working conditions with high temperatures.
According to the ministry's recommendation:
outdoor work should be avoided between 11:00 and 16:00,
pregnant women must be released from work from 11:00 to 16:00,
people with chronic illnesses must work part-time, a maximum of 4 hours a day,
Working hours for employees should be adjusted, to early mornings or late afternoons, including the possibility of working from home,
Sufficient ventilation must be provided in enclosed workplaces and
Refreshment points should be set up in open workshops for workers to refresh themselves and provide access to cold water for them.
Temperatures this week in Kosovo are expected to reach 38 degrees Celsius.
As a result of the hot weather that has swept the Balkans, fires have been reported to spread in Albania, North Macedonia and Croatia, as temperatures have in some cases reached over 40 degrees Celsius./ REL (A2 Televizion)
