The Vetëvendosje Movement has not escaped fines from the Electoral Complaints and Appeals Panel (ECAP), which this morning decided to fine the LDK 20,000 euros because one of their candidates for MP compared Albin Kurti to Adolf Hitler.
The ruling party has been fined 3,000 euros due to the derogatory language used by its leader Albin Kurti at some of the campaign rallies for the February 9 elections.
The complaint about the language used by the Prime Minister towards political opponents was made by the Democratic League of Kosovo.
"The complaint of the political entity Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), headquartered in Pristina, Anr.30/2025 dated 14.01.2025, is accepted as partially grounded, so that the political entity Self-Determination Movement (LVV), headquartered in Pristina, due to the violation of the Code of Conduct for Political Entities, their Supporters and Candidates, is imposed a fine of 3,000.00 (three thousand) euros," the ECAP decision states.
In the LDK complaint submitted to the ECAP, three videos of Kurti were presented where the latter is heard using inappropriate language towards the two opposition parties LDK and PDK, which are referred to as "LËDËKYHI and PËDËKYHI".
"The complainant quotes the following statements: Therefore, when we happen to hear a leader of LËDËKYH who says that the people like him, the people have sympathy for him, this (Kurti speaks for himself) resembles that fly (insulting, bullying, inciting and provocative comparison) that said wherever I go they are waiting for me with applause (ironically with strange and uncontrolled gestures and facial expressions)."
The complainant further emphasizes that, "when they say that the people are liking them, it's like that fly that was praised that people are applauding and you know very well that with those clapping hands what they are trying to do to that fly (he alludes to a serious comparison that goes beyond metaphor and turns into provocative language of hatred towards the other - in this case towards the leader of the LDK) ."
