The Basic Court of Pristina has ordered Prime Minister Albin Kurti to appear before the Special Prosecution Office on Tuesday, March 4, to give testimony in the state reserves case.

Previously, the Prime Minister's Office insisted that there are precedents when leaders have been interviewed in his offices, not only in Kosovo but also in the world, and that it is not true that Kurti is not willing to not give evidence. The request that the Special Prosecution Office respect the position of the Prime Minister given his busy agenda, according to lawyers, has no legal basis.

"It is not that there was any argument of a legal nature through which they would justify the prime minister's request to be interviewed in his office due to the fact that these are legal matters and insofar as they do not fall within the domain of witnesses who, due to their health condition and similar extenuating circumstances, are outside the prosecutor's office premises," said Ardian Bajraktari, a lawyer, writes A2 CNN.

Another accusation that the Prime Minister's Office made to the Prosecution was that the invitation was more political, saying that the prosecutors' behavior comes after Kurti highlighted corruption in the justice system and opposed the proposal that Blerim Isufaj be appointed Chief State Prosecutor.

"There are strong suspicions that this call from the Prosecution has no legal motive, but political. The Prosecution has failed for years to pursue high-profile corruption cases and instead of addressing these problems, it is attempting to create a false perception against the Prime Minister," said Përparim Kryeziu, government spokesman.

Lawyers insist that every citizen must respond to the prosecutor's summons, and the prime minister is no exception.

"The issue of inviting anyone, in this case even the prime minister, is within the domain of the prosecutor and his responsibilities related to the investigation of the case, and as a result, every citizen is obliged to respond to the prosecution's summons to testify," the lawyer said.

The Basic Court of Pristina confirmed that before making the decision to order Kurti to appear before the Prosecution, it also received the response from the Prime Minister's Office.  (A2 Televizion)
