The imposition of a 10 percent basic tariff on imports will also have a negative impact on Kosovo. This is what economic experts in the country estimate. According to them, entities that deal with the export of goods in Kosovo will face some difficulties, and the profit margin for businesses will narrow.
During 2024, according to Kosovo Customs statistics, the country exported products worth over 39 million euros to the US, while in the first three months of 2025 the export value is almost 6 million.
"For us as Kosovo, the effects will be minimal, there will be no major effect, regardless of the fact that those entities that deal with exports, with America, will suffer a little because if until yesterday they had tariffs with or without VAT, now they have 10 percent, the margins of businesses that export to America are narrowing. But, the likelihood that compensation can be done with an increase in exports to countries not necessarily related to America. The whole world will export much less to America, because there will be entrepreneurs who change it, they say it is expensive to send goods to America, another market must be found."
Economic expert Teuta Nunaj tells Kosova Press that this decision could lead to a reduction in exports from Albania and Kosovo to the US, thus making the two countries lose competitiveness in the market.
"Tariffs could reduce exports from Albania and Kosovo to the US. This could lead to a reduction in exports from Albania and Kosovo to the US, in which case Albania and Kosovo would lose market competitiveness, as another product would be favored, or it could happen that products imported from Kosovo and Albania could be manufactured in the US, and this would again reduce the leverage of both of our countries vis-à-vis the US market," Nunaj said.
There were also reactions from the Kosovo Chamber of Commerce and Industry regarding this decision. In a statement, the chamber of commerce expressed concern and said that this decision is expected to further impact exports, which from Kosovo to the US have declined in recent months. It also called on the government to support businesses affected by the measures. (A2 Televizion)
