Despite the abstention of the only Serbian minister, Nenad Rashič, the Government of Kosovo during Wednesday's meeting decided to establish the Museum of Genocide and Struggle for Freedom.

The Genocide Museum aims to document and present the crimes of former Yugoslavia and Serbia against Albanians and others in Kosovo.

"Our country will have a dignified museum where the crimes of former Yugoslavia and Serbia against our people will be shown. This museum is the institutionalization of our collective memory and evidence of the monstrous crimes of genocidal Serbia as well as evidence that the Republic of Kosovo has both grieved and does not forget," said Prime Minister Kurti.

The museum will initially be established as a separate unit within the National Museum of Kosovo, while immediately after the entry into force of the law on museums that is currently in the process of being drafted, this institution will be raised to the museum institutional level of the national level.

All the small museums that have been set up in different forms in all the cities of Kosovo and that witness the history of war crimes will become part of it.

"There are several small museums throughout Kosovo that document these crimes from the past and we believe that the best way is for all of them to become part of this new museum institution of Kosovo", said Minister Çeku.

Asked by A2 CNN about the abstention of Minister Rasič, Čeku stated that "we will tell history as it is" and that the museum will also testify to Serbian crimes against other ethnicities in Kosovo.

"The point where we all agree is that our past is what it is and our duty is to show it as it is. The final decision on the establishment of the museum already states the documentation and presentation of the crimes of the former Yugoslavia and Serbia against Albanians and others in Kosovo," Çeku added.

A2 CNN contacted Minister Rasic to ask him where his reservations are regarding the museum, and he confirmed that it has to do with the "generalization of genocide".

"I consider that every crime has a name and a surname and crimes should not be generalized as at this point. It means, the name of the museum is not adequate, 'Genocide of Serbia and Yugoslavia'. It can be, for example, 'war genocide', 'genocide by war criminals', 'genocide of paramilitary groups', 'war crimes' or any other expression, but do not use the whole state as if it is genocidal", said Serbian Minister Rasic. .

The Genocide Museum will be located in the current facility of the Ministry of Culture in the main square in Pristina, while the ministry will be moved sometime.

After the governmental decision for establishment, the Ministry of Culture now opens the procedures for the design of the museum concept as the first stage of the process, while no date was given when it is expected to be operationalized. (A2 Televizion)
