The Central Election Commission has started the certification of political entities, along with their lists of candidates for the February 9 elections.
During the period for application of political entities for certification and submission of the list of candidates for deputies for participation in the elections for the Assembly of Kosovo from September 1 through December 11, 28 political entities have applied, of which: 20 political parties; 5 coalitions; 2 citizen initiatives and 1 independent candidate. The total number of candidates for deputies, representing these political subjects, is 1,280 candidates.
The director of the legal office of the CEC, Besnik Buzhala, has presented to the members, the list of candidates who have passed all the verification steps based on Article 30 of the Law on Elections.
The CEC member from AAK, Ibrahim Selmanaj, requested that lots be drawn for the ranking of political subjects.
What is a concern at this stage for the competing parties is that despite the many meetings they have had with citizens outside Kosovo, the number of citizens from the diaspora who have applied to vote in the February 9 elections is low.
According to the CEC, out of 44,542 approved applications, 11,025 citizens of Kosovo have registered to vote physically at diplomatic missions, 7,006 have registered to send a ballot package to the CEC mailbox in Kosovo, and 26,511 have registered to send a package by ballot in the post office box abroad.
