Prime Minister Albin Kurti called Kosovo's membership in NATO an urgent matter. In his speech at the joint session of the two assemblies in Pristina, the head of the Kosovo government said that the KSF is up to the task required by the standards of the Euro-Atlantic alliance and that Kosovo is making giant steps towards membership.
"NATO is in Kosovo, but Kosovo is not in NATO. Kosovo is taking giant steps towards NATO. NATO does not have its own armament, but that of its member states. In contrast to the year 2018-2020 when we had less than 4 million euros investment in armaments, in 2022-2023 we have over 239 million euros investment in armaments and ammunition. We will join to become stronger and benefit from NATO as well as contribute. The Russian aggression in Ukraine, the rekindling of the conflict in the Middle East, the terrorist attacks in Kosovo Banjské and Ibër Lepence that come from Serbia and Russia together have made Kosovo's membership in NATO an urgent issue. KSF is up to the task required by the standards of the alliance, and we believe it."
As a NATO country, Kurti emphasized that Albania is on the side of Kosovo for its membership and mentioned the exceeding of the criteria set for admission.
"Our countries need both the EU and NATO. We are happy that Albania is a NATO country and an EU candidate. Kosovo has submitted its application to NATO. We have Albania on our side to overcome political obstacles for Kosovo's membership in this organization. We exceed the criterion of 2% of the gross domestic product since it was defined as a criterion at the Wales summit".
Women, youth, diaspora and the countryside are 4 essential points that, according to the head of the government of Kosovo, both countries should pay attention to.
"Even in Kosovo and Albania, we must pay attention to 4 social categories; the activation of women's rights, the youth which is energetic and multilingual like none in the Balkans, the Diaspora which is larger and patriotic than any in the Balkans, and the development of the village of our highlands".
Kurti ruled out internal sources that undermine Kosovo's security and instability and said that he has extended sovereignty to the north, while their terrorist acts are their last desperation.
"In Kosovo, the economic growth was greater since we declared independence. We have extended sovereignty to the north of Kosovo. Today there may be terrorist acts, but not internal sources that undermine security or instability. Paramilitary terrorism is an expression of their impotence. Their terrorist acts are their last desperation."
At the end of his speech, Kurti expressed confidence that despite the reformation of the two assemblies next year, the joint meetings will be in the same spirit. (A2 Televizion)
