"Today in Pristina the weather is cold, but it does not affect the warm atmosphere in this hall where the two Assemblies have been held together; of Albania and Kosovo". This is how the Prime Minister of Kosovo began his speech at the joint session of the two assemblies held today for the first time in Pristina.
From the beginning of his speech, Kurti expressed the aspiration of our two states, that of national unity and the preservation of identity.
"Dear deputies, you represent the citizens of two states and members of the same nation. Our two states are political expressions of the same aspiration for preserving identity and national unity. The first legislature of Albania recognized Kosovo in 1991".
While taking stock of the joint meetings, Kurti said that work is being done to remove border controls throughout the year.
"I express satisfaction that today the assemblies make balances in the joint government meetings from defense, infrastructure, commercial exchanges, tourism, energy, recognition of pensions, calculation of school textbooks, etc. The results are tangible to follow up. Albania is among the first 5 countries that Kosovo has the largest volumes of trade exchanges. The common energy market is functional. Work is being done to remove border control throughout the year. Opening of 26 new crossings. The border between Kosovo and Albania is like the border between the two ventricles of the heart".
Kurti emphasized the Albanian minorities in the region and said that they are the most discriminated in Serbia. He invited Albania to follow the example of Kosovo regarding the Albanians of the Presheva Valley.
"Joint parliamentary committees help in this direction. We have work ahead of us but also to help the healthy living of Albanians in the neighboring countries, in RMV and Montenegro, but especially in Serbia. The Albanian community in Serbia is the most discriminated in Europe. Albanians are not to blame for being autochthonous. We have allocated 400,000 euros for the Presheva Valley. We hope that it will also serve Albania. National minorities in Kosovo are with us. Kosovo and Albania believe in human rights, are contributors to peace in the region and support the integration processes of the Euro-Atlantic family".
