The Ministry of Defense is satisfied with the interest of Kosovar youth to join the Kosovo Security Force. Despite the criticism that there is not a sufficient number of interested parties, they said that they have almost doubled the number of soldiers.
The Democratic Party of Kosovo says the competition used to be much greater for a place in the Security Force.
"Last years, I remember when I was part of the KSF, we had 12 places for cadets from 5-6 thousand competitors. Today, the contests must be repeated continuously to ensure the necessary number of at least 2-3 people for a place that will then be able to be selected", says PDK MP Hisen Berisha.
According to the PDK, the Ministry of Defense is to blame for the decline in interest in joining the army, which according to them, with some scandals such as the one about food or the lack of care for current soldiers, have given wrong messages to young people who like the army.
"The situation that has been created in Forca during these years has demonstrated and created an image which was no longer a simulation for the competition of young people in Forca", adds Berisha.
In the eyes of ex-servicemen, the interest in joining the army cannot be as it was in the beginning, as it is mainly related to the security situation in general and not to the fact that they do not love the state.
"This does not mean that they are not patriotic or do not love their country, but they do not see a very big threat in relation to the country's security and are oriented towards a better future in the economic and financial sense for them. ", said former soldier Hisen Gecaj.
However, for the Ministry of Defense in recent years there has been increased interest, and consequently greater competition to become part of the Kosovo Security Force.
According to them, the total number of recruits in the Kosovo Security Force during the period 2021-2024 has reached 2271, thus almost doubling the total number of KSF soldiers.
"As for the interest in applying to the Kosovo Security Force, we can say that there has been an increase in the last year in relation to open positions, since in the competition closed in October, 1658 people applied for 300 positions. that expressly 6 people have applied for one place, while before it was in a ratio of 3 to 1 or 4 to 1", declares the Ministry of Defense.
The Ministry of Defense says that at the same time they have taken care of the well-being of the military through salary increases, while they have also invested in professional training through the financing of education and training.
