At the conference "The role of the legislature in addressing domestic violence, violence against women and gender-based violence", he said that gender-based violence remains a challenge of Kosovar society, despite continuous efforts to combat it, writes A2.
While the Minister of Justice, Albulena Haxhiu, emphasized that they have taken several legal initiatives to prevent domestic violence and gender-based violence: "Unfortunately, gender-based violence remains a very big challenge of our society, despite our efforts to common to fight it... Despite an activation and a campaign that is increasing more and more, this is not reflected in the decrease in the number of cases of domestic violence and violence against women and girls... We are witnesses that the cases of violence against women have increased in recent years, just as the reporting of such cases in the relevant institutions has also increased significantly".
Albulena Haxhiu, Minister of Justice, said: "The Republic of Kosovo, respectively the government of Kosovo through the Ministry of Justice has made important steps through the adoption of specific laws and taking a series of necessary measures that deal with violence against women and gender equality. Among them is the adoption of the Strategy for protection from domestic violence... In addition to these measures, we cannot ignore the need for constant awareness. Our society must educate new generations on the principle of gender equality, respect and solidarity. Education is the basis for preventing violence and creating a culture of tolerance and equality" (A2 Televizion)
