"140 thousand workers will lose their jobs", PDK initiates legal

The Democratic Party of Kosovo announced in a press conference that it has submitted an administrative objection to the Energy Regulatory Office against the decision of this institution to allow 1,300 businesses to enter the open market from June 1. This party has warned that if ERO does not change the decision after fifteen days as provided by law, then they will appeal to the Basic Court, where they will request the imposition of a temporary measure until a full decision is made. PDK MP Abelard Tahiri, in a press conference, expressed his conviction that they will win this legal battle with ERO and that the decision, which is a blow to the country's economy, will be annulled.

"We have started the legal battle to annul the decision of the Energy Regulatory Office, which illegally brought about 1,300 businesses to the open market. This battle is being fought precisely to oppose an illegal decision that risks about 140,000 Kosovo citizens losing their jobs.... We have sent our administrative objection within ERO. We are also convinced that their positions will be the same as the decision, because despite the objections they have had, they have not changed their decision and stand behind it. We must follow the legal steps as the law states. We will wait 15 days for a notification from ERO to annul this decision. If within 15 days they do not annul the decision, on the 16th day we will proceed to the administrative department in (the Basic Court) as an administrative objection to this notification, because this is not even a decision. To "After a confrontation in a legal battle, they have not issued a decision. Through a notice, they have obliged KESCO to place these companies on the open market. We will undertake all legal deadlines so that within the shortest possible time frame, a temporary measure is imposed against this decision that will suspend the implementation of this decision," he said.

Asked what the solution is, knowing that the Energy Law was adopted in 2016, which foresees the entry of these companies into the open market, he said that they are not against market liberalization, but initially the conditions must be created and there must be more energy bidders.

"Liberalization of the energy market is a request of the EU itself and it must happen. However, the conditions must be created because when we talk about market liberalization we are talking about more bidders and not just one. There, businesses will be able to have a cheaper price, not more expensive and monopoly. Market liberalization means moving away from monopoly and having a true liberalization of the market," he added.

On the other hand, according to Tahiri, one of the companies that has applied for a license to sell energy is MDA, a company founded by the chief of staff of the acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, Luan Dalipi.

"Luan Dalipi is the founder and at the same time the owner of this company. So, the MDA of the Prime Minister's Chief of Staff, which is currently headed by Driton Dalipi, has applied for a license to supply electricity to our country. On the one hand, the Prime Minister sends his brother to the Department for Electricity Sales at KEK and on the other hand, the Prime Minister's Chief of Staff requests a license to sell electricity to these companies that have been put on the free market. Honestly, this is terrible and I don't know if we can call this corruption anymore. The level of this crime has gone so high that it is endangering the well-being of our citizens and it has become scary to live in this country," Tahiri added.

The Energy Regulatory Office (ERO) has decided that as of June 1, over 1,300 businesses will move to the open electricity market. (A2 Televizion)
