The leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Albin Kurti, has begun consultations with non-majority communities on the formation of the new government.
He said on Wednesday that he met with the leader of the New Democratic Party from the Bosniak community, Emilija Rexhepi, and the leader of the Party for Freedom, Justice and Survival from the Serb community, Nenad Rashic, writes A2.
Kurti announced that he will soon hold meetings with others, but without specifying whether such a thing will also happen with any of the Albanian parties that have secured seats in the Assembly: "We have started with official meetings, with the leaders of political parties. Emilja Rexhepi and Nenad Rashiq were there in the morning. We will also meet with the others."
Both Rashiq and Rexhepi have expressed their readiness to continue cooperation with Kurti. The LVV leader is aiming to form the government without cooperating with the Albanian opposition parties. However, even though the results have been certified, Kurti has refused to answer how he will manage to get 61 MPs to form the government.
These actions by Kurti are seen as buying time to "smuggle" some MP from the opposition parties. Based on the results of the February 9, 2025 elections, the position of Speaker of the Assembly belongs to the Vetëvendosje Movement.
The constitutive session is expected to be held on April 15, and if by then Kurti has not secured at least 61 signatures from MPs to send to the President, he will have another 15 days to form a government. (A2 Televizion)
