Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani has submitted a request to the Constitutional Court to clarify the legal consequences if MPs do not constitute the ninth legislature by July 26, the deadline set in the Constitutional Court's June 26 ruling.
In a press conference on Tuesday, the president said that the request sent to the Constitutional Court does not prejudice the epilogue in extending the remaining four-day deadline for the constitution of the Assembly.
Osmani said that if an agreement is reached on the constitution of the Assembly, it will withdraw the request submitted to the Constitutional Court.
"Along with this request, we have also submitted a request for a temporary measure to suspend the expiration of the 30-day deadline. The request for a temporary measure is an opportunity to avoid putting institutions in an endless blockade and entering a situation where institutions could be created in an unconstitutional manner and would be untimely. The request is therefore made in order to prevent irreparable damage and protect the public interest, two criteria that must be met for any temporary measure."
According to Osmani, as long as the Assembly continues to be unconstituted, the Government will continue to function with limited powers, as he said that even key institutions, including the Presidency, cannot exercise their powers due to the absence of the Assembly. (A2 Televizion)
