The remote controversies between the President's office and cabinet ministers regarding the 10% tariff on goods from the US are being seen by analysts in Kosovo as evidence of the division between the heads of institutions and the lack of harmonization on foreign policy.

President Vjosa Osmani asked the government on Thursday to suspend the 10% customs tariff on goods from the US, a day after US President Donald Trump imposed a similar tariff on imports from Kosovo.

But acting Finance Minister Hekuran Murati criticized the President, who he said should keep discussions on these issues closed until a decision is made. He said the government cabinet has been considering the issue of tariffs on products coming from the US for a long time. But in a statement, President Osmani's advisor, Bekim Kupina, described the comments as shameful and scandalous.

"This is clear evidence that Kosovo does not have a harmonized foreign policy between institutions. The President's proposal to remove the 10% tariff is a good proposal and I believe that it should be acted upon immediately by the Kosovo government. It is unnecessary and I think that they lack coordination and I think it is institutional immaturity. These types of conversations, even when they have disagreements, take place behind closed doors and not for the public. It is evidence of institutional immaturity," emphasizes Alma Lama.

On the other hand, political analyst Arbnor Sadiku tells Kosova Press that the ruling party, the Vetevendosje Movement, and consequently the government, are no longer ignoring President Vjosa Osmani, as they consider her a non-player in future political coalitions: "If there were a good relationship between the Presidency and the Prime Minister's Office, it would have to be an internal communication relationship. Due to the fact that Mrs. Osmani now seems to have divorced the crown from Prime Minister Kurti, since Guxo is no longer a part controlled by Osmani. She is trying, seeing that her political weight has fallen, to be current through the media and topics where she can attack Kurti and his government. But at the same time, to be a kind of future political actor with the opposition. The Vetevendosje Movement no longer ignores Mrs. Osmani, as they consider her a non-player in future political coalitions."

Meanwhile, the leader of AAK, Ramush Haradinaj, and business representatives have also called for the lifting of all measures against the US.   (A2 Televizion)
