The leader of the Vetevendosje Movement, also the acting Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has continued consultative meetings with non-Serb parties for the second day in a row on the formation of the country's new government. Some of the parties of non-majority communities said that they have presented their requests for a possible cooperation with the Vetevendosje Movement.
On April 3, he met with the leader of the Social Democratic Union (SDU), Duda Balje, the leader of the Egyptian Liberal Party, Veton Berisha, and the leader of the Turkish Democratic Party of Kosovo, Fikrim Damka. Kurti's office said that there will be other meetings during the day.
Balje said after the meeting that she has submitted a request to Kurti - whose party won the February 9 parliamentary elections - for her party to support the new executive.
"The demands are a Bosniak municipality, reforms in education and equal treatment of all deputies who have a vote within the assembly," she said.
According to Balje, no confirmation was received at the meeting that the demands would be met, but neither did she give Kurti confirmation that she would support him in forming the new government.
However, she said that this is only the first meeting and the talks will continue, adding that as members of non-majority communities, they are also talking to other Albanian parties, but the same demands apply to other entities.
She also did not confirm whether she will support the new speaker of the assembly, who should be proposed by the LVV, during the constitutive session on April 15.
Veton Berisha from the Egyptian Liberal Party said that in principle, his party has no "red lines" for any party for possible cooperation.
However, he said that this is just the beginning of the discussions and they expect talks to continue on the demands they have.
His party's demands are to invest more in the Egyptian community, both in infrastructure and in the field of education, but also to respect the rights of this community, which he said faces discrimination.
In the event of joining the new government, he said that they want to have the opportunity to influence government policies, in order to improve the situation of the community to which they belong.
Meanwhile, Kurti's Office said that during the meeting with Fikrim Damka, who is the acting Minister of Regional Development, the parties "expressed the will and readiness for this fruitful cooperation to continue in the next legislature."
A day earlier, Kurti met with the leader of the New Democratic Party from the Bosniak community, also acting Deputy Prime Minister, Emilija Rexhepi, with the leader of the Party for Freedom, Justice and Survival from the Serb community, Nenad Rashiq, and the leader of the New Democratic Initiative of Kosovo party, Elbert Krasniqi.
Non-majority communities in Kosovo have 20 guaranteed seats in the assembly: ten belong to non-Serb communities, and another ten to the Serb community. The Serb List has won nine of the ten Serb community seats.
Kurti's LVV won 48 seats in parliament, which is not enough to form a government on its own. The party has said it wants to form the new executive in cooperation with non-Serb communities.
Kurti's party is also responsible for proposing the new speaker of the assembly, for which, as for the election of the government, 61 votes of deputies are required./ REL (A2 Televizion)
