President Osmani: In May, we received information about Serbia's actions on

Kosovo President Vjosa Omsani said on Thursday that Serbia had the intention and still has the intention to destabilize the security situation in Kosovo, and that she made this assessment based on the continuous information she received from the security institutions of the Republic of Kosovo.

"More specifically, at the end of May, we received specific information regarding Serbia's actions on the border with Kosovo. Immediately after receiving this information, I had meetings with the security institutions that report to me as president. We have ensured that every institution in Kosovo is properly mobilized for the defense of the country," she said at a press conference.

Osmani said that some of the information is classified, but that it has been shared with allies to stop the escalation of security.

Serbia rejected Osman's statements days ago, but the Kosovo president called them "part of their ongoing propaganda."

"I assure the citizens of Kosovo that there is no reason for concern or panic, because our institutions are on duty to protect the borders and the security of all our citizens. Threats from Serbia are constant, however, our institutions have everything under control."

Osmani made these statements at a press conference in Pristina, after returning from several visits to the United States and Latvia.

During her visit to Washington last week, the president confirmed US President Donald Trump's statements that he had prevented a possible escalation from Serbia to Kosovo "in recent weeks."

Trump himself has mentioned Kosovo and Serbia on several occasions in recent weeks, saying he has prevented a conflict between them, but without providing details about the time period.

Radio Free Europe has contacted the White House for clarification regarding these statements, but has not received a response.

The acting Government of Kosovo has not responded either, when asked what kind of escalation of the situation is being discussed.

NATO's mission in Kosovo, KFOR, has told Radio Free Europe that the Western Balkans continue to have strategic importance for the alliance and it is committed to regional stability.

However, KFOR did not want to comment on the recent statements of Osman and Trump, saying that they should be referred to Kosovo and US institutions.

The German Embassy in Kosovo also told Radio Free Europe a day ago that it has no information about any military escalation of the situation between Kosovo and Serbia./ REL (A2 Televizion)
