Kosovo has commemorated the 26th anniversary of the Serbian massacre in Vushtrri, in which 116 Albanians were killed. Politicians and the victims' families demanded justice and expressed their disappointment.

Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti said that only with punishment for those who committed this massacre will the families find peace, and peace will be sustainable, writes A2.

"The Serbian genocidal strategy with the "Horseback", with which Kosovo was being cleansed of Albanians, was a dark plan that also included small horseshoes. One of them was here in Vushtrri, villages were surrounded and residents were driven from their homes. On the evening of May 2, Serbian criminal forces began systematic terror against the Albanian civilian population, which was moving there in a column from Studime e Poshtë to Studime e Epërme. Within two hours, 116 civilians, men, women, elderly and children... We are living proof of the strength of our people, we are grateful to you for keeping the memory of the war alive in this way... Crimes against humanity are not prescribed, they are not forgiven. Only with justice for the victims and punishment for the criminals, will the families find peace and peace will be sustainable", said Kurti.

The families of those who lost their lives, in addition to the pain that accompanies the loss of loved ones, have another open wound: after 26 years, no one has been punished for this crime. The survivor of the Vushtrri massacre, Bahrije Gërxhaliu, says that the Serbian army killed her husband, along with her brother-in-law. In addition to the great pain she feels, the survivor of this massacre feels disappointed that the perpetrators of this crime have not been brought to justice.

"God willing, this blood will not be wasted, which we as family members are disappointed about. Only with justice, today and 26 years later, no one has yet come to court to try those who committed this massacre," says Gërxhaliu.

26 years ago, on May 2, 1999, Serbian forces killed and massacred 116 innocent Albanian civilians. The victims were among hundreds of people who had made their way to Albania. Witnesses said that the 116 civilians were shot within two hours. (A2 Televizion)
