In an interview for "Debat" by Alba Alishani on A2 CNN, the deputy prime minister of North Macedonia, Izet Mejhiti, gave the guarantee that the Albanian language will not be affected.
According to him, the VLEN coalition will protect the rights of Albanians and has had the courage to discuss with VMRO/DPMNE issues such as language that were once considered taboo with dignity.
"You said this morning that VLEN is the guarantor of the rights of Albanians, of the law of languages and the advancement of the rights of Albanians, for the advancement of the language and not to give an answer with diplomacy, we guarantee that the mother has died for this job. "No one dares to touch the Albanian language in Macedonia," said Mejhiti.
He further added that even in the worst case, if the Court decides to abrogate the law on languages where it is determined that it recognizes Albanian as a language spoken by more than 20% of the population, it is the Constitution that has determined the official use of Albanian in North Macedonia as a mandatory right.
"The first thing we must distinguish is that the official use of the Albanian language is a higher category than the law in question. It is a constitutional category. This has been confirmed by a statement from the President, the Prime Minister and me as the Deputy Prime Minister and other political factors in the country, that no one has the idea or opportunity to abrogate a constitutional right, i.e. the official use of the Albanian language. I think that the debate will be open-ended and in the end the conclusion will be that this will be a constitutional right and there is no reason to debate whether it should exist or not. But even if we take the worst option, that the judges abrogate this law, we will bring the same or better law to the republican parliament. There is no reason to upset the opinion inside or outside, since the very fact that it is a constitutional right is greater than the law in question", explained Mejhiti.
Asked what is expected to happen by March with the law on languages and the debate it has created in the country, Mexhi said that "Albanians are better than ever before" in North Macedonia.
"For the first time after 20 years, Albanians have two political camps and there is political competition. The good thing is that the competition is in ideas, platforms and programs. The biggest guarantee for Albanians is that they are represented in the government by a new generation that has no past mortgages. Which is devoted and divine to the Albanian language and the rights of Albanians. Because we don't have mortgages to spend the mandate and votes of Albanians to save Nikola Gruevski and Sasha Millajkov. DASH proved this by declaring the past vice-prime minister non-grata, for corruption in the judiciary, that is, to save the butchers who have killed Albanians in the past and imprisoned Albanians, abrogated their rights. The Albanian issue is a priority before our chairs", he underlined.
