DPSHL makes a public call to stop attacks on justice and establish European standards in the relationship between justice and the media.
???? Albania is at a crucial moment for the rule of law. Justice reform, one of the pillars of European integration, is increasingly being challenged by public statements from investigated individuals, defendants and their lawyers, who aim to influence legal processes by distorting public perception and exerting pressure on magistrates.
???? As SPAK and the Special Court intensify the fight against corruption, attacks on prosecutors and judges are becoming increasingly dangerous. Public attacks threaten not only the integrity of the judiciary, but also the democratic future of Albania.
❌ Defendants cannot pressure justice through the media!
???? The media should not be used as a weapon to undermine the independence of justice!
⚖️ The rule of law cannot tolerate public blackmail against judges and prosecutors!
???? Diaspora for a Free Albania urgently requests:
Considering the basic right to freedom of speech but also the guarantee of the independence of the judicial system, SPAK should submit as soon as possible to the Special Court a legal request to prohibit the publication of statements by defendants and their lawyers in public media, as long as the statements affect the independence of justice and undermine the due process of law.
The Special Court should prohibit, by interim decision, the publication of statements of persons under criminal investigation or defendants, as well as prohibit the publication of such statements by the media.
In defense of the integrity of the judiciary, the movement will continue to closely monitor developments and denounce any attempt to undermine the institutions of justice and hinder Albania on its path towards the EU!
