The former mufti of Tirana, Ylli Gurra, revealed in "Off the Record" by Andrea Danglli, on A2 CNN that plans for the creation of the Bektashi state in Albania have been underway since 2017, where according to him there was also a request from the Patriarchate to the then-head of the Parliament, Ilir Meta, on the issue in question.
According to Gurrë, what is striking is why this idea is coming to life right now, after lying dormant for almost a decade. He further expressed his full conviction that this is “not at all an initiative, nor an indication, or perhaps a desire of Albania.”
"It doesn't start from Albania. Why exactly now, because in fact it didn't start either this year or the year before. At least since 2017. For this, there was also an official request from the World Patriarchate addressed to the Speaker of Parliament at the time, Mr. Meta. So to take such a step. For political reasons, or the circumstances at that time that have not been more than, not even a decade, 8 years," Gurra said in "Off the Record" by Andrea Danglli, on A2 CNN.
He then cast doubt on whether the idea for creating the Bektashi state is Israeli and defended his thesis by revealing details from President Isaac Herzog's visit to Albania in September 2024, where he met with the community leader, "Baba Mondi".
Gurra also reserved criticism for the Muslim Community of Albania, saying that they have also indirectly paved the way for the implementation of this idea.
"It was not thrown, but last year with the visit of President Herzog it became almost a fait accompli, both the public launch and Mr. Rama's statement in September 2024. It was not the Patriarch's. Unfortunately, the bed for this, perhaps even unconsciously, was prepared by the Muslim Community itself. After all, a President of the State of Israel cannot stand up, whatever his intentions, and come to a meeting, not with the government of the time, but only with the Patriarch in September of last year. The meetings with the Patriarch were not made public. But with the members of the Religious Communities in Albania, where unfortunately the Community itself was. Which did not serve it, and now with the passage of time. The Community understood its own blunder. This has not served it. But it must be emphasized that it is not a local initiative. Those who have remained in the Muslim Community have prepared a bed for this type of idea," Gurra declared in "Off the Record" by Andrea Danglli, on A2 CNN. (A2 Televizion)
