The head of the CEC, Ilirjan Celibashi, admitted in today's media appearance that the process of distributing ballots to Albanian emigrants, mainly in Greece, did not go in the best possible way, even though the postal service was provided by DHL.
Although he admitted that 21,000 envelopes have not yet arrived at voters' addresses because the addresses were incorrect or voters did not show up to collect them at DHL offices, Celibashi underlined that a very good job has been done overall.
Asked whether the legitimacy of the diaspora voting process is at risk with the emerging problems, Celibashi said that " the integrity cannot be questioned . "
" We have a contractual relationship with DHL, just like any relationship, we will evaluate it at the end and we will sit down with the other party and see how much and how it has fulfilled that service. It is exactly the same as any other contractual relationship. It is too early to make judgments about how DHL has performed the service, we have noted everything according to our problem and we will discuss it with the contractor when the time comes. We have followed all the concerns carefully. We have also received information through social networks, we have informed them. I am 100% convinced and out of any kind of interest that is primarily related to what has been done to carry out this process, but categorically in my assessment and judgment, the integrity of the external voting process cannot be questioned. It is a process beyond modesty, which was not carried out perfectly and not for reasons related to the CEC, but it is a process carried out, without hesitation I can say, very well. Judging by the numbers, always. Then everyone can make their own judgment. "Maybe we are not on the ground, but from what comes to us here, whether through political parties or voters, this process cannot be called into question ," he emphasized.
Celibashi also announced that so far, over 240 thousand envelopes have been sent by the CEC for voters abroad and distributed to over 220 thousand addresses, while over 144 thousand envelopes have been returned. (A2 Televizion)
