The Minister of Defense, Pirro Vengu, was invited this Wednesday to the Debate by Alba Alishani on A2 CNN, where he spoke, among other things, about "Made in Albania" products in the army.
He stated that the production of uniforms and armored vehicles will begin within the year.
"We aim for the Mjekës complex to attach a production line there, the former Autotractor Plant, Poliçani, Gramshi, as well as several other locations. Albania has not had this economic activity for several decades and we must take the right time for negotiations. We are talking about private investors who will enter as co-shareholders with the state, with the state-owned company. This will give us production so that such a delicate industry can be an instrument of Albania as well. The main goal is not simply to produce armaments, to reindustrialize Albania, as another strong pillar.
I think this year will see us start producing uniforms and armored vehicles, and we are also aiming to start producing ammunition. I believe these would be the first 3 products that give us optimism.
"We are also negotiating more complex contracts related to heavy artillery, with elements that take more time. We are talking about investments that exceed tens and hundreds of millions of euros," said Minister Vengu in the Debate.
