The Italian government has published in the Official Gazette the agreement on the recognition of social security contributions with Albania. This agreement was signed in February last year and is expected to be implemented in a few weeks.
The approval of this agreement guarantees the pension rights of Albanians in Italy and Italians in Albania, from which about half a million Albanians and 4 thousand Italians benefit.
The subject of this agreement are benefits from the mandatory social security scheme, which include benefits for old-age pension, disability pension and family pension, insurance for sickness and maternity leave benefits, as well as unemployment insurance.
A fund of 12 million euros was approved for 2025; 13.6 million euros for 2026; 13.1 million euros for 2027; 15.1 million euros for 2028; 17 million euros for 2029; 19.3 million euros for 2030; 21.3 million euros for 2031; 23.4 million euros per year for all subsequent years starting from 2032.
Albania has signed a number of agreements in the field of social security, including with Turkey, Belgium, Hungary, Luxembourg, the Czech Republic, North Macedonia, Germany, Austria, Bulgaria, Canada, Romania, Kosovo, the Swiss Confederation and Croatia.
