During the month of December, and mainly during the last few days, the number of vehicles circulating in Tirana is increasing, and as a result, the traffic in the capital becomes even heavier. This is because a large number of immigrants come to Albania for the holidays.
Jetnor Shira, the head of urban traffic for Tirana lists a number of reasons why the capital has heavy traffic at different hours of the day.
"Also this year there is an increase in flow, perhaps even more so for the construction sites, such as the part of the construction site from the Casa Italia overpass to the Kashar-Thumane interurban road overpass and the part of the continuation of the Ring segment from the former Shqiponja square in the direction of Paskuqan, which has diverted the traffic section of Dritan Hoxha street. We have an increase in flow in the part of May 5, shopping centers and in the evening part, the increase in flow is concentrated in the part of the center. Since it is a festive environment, everyone aims to celebrate in the center. Since the only underground parking at the bank square cannot cope with the flow, they are forced to come around the part of the square until they find a parking space", the head of urban traffic in Tirana, Jetnor Shira, told A2 CNN.
Shira says that in quite a few cases, the traffic is also increased by drivers who double park on the road.
"They are definitely a problem for traffic and occasionally commercial units, the part of Myslym Shyr, Mine Peza, 5 Maji, where commercial units are also concentrated. But that there is an increased flow even from the districts that come to Tirana", said Shira further.
From a few days until January 3, 2025, the Traffic Police has been on reinforced alert, even making momentary diversions for drivers to pass, so that there are facilities in any segment. (A2 Televizion)
