Since the law came into force and up to now, 108 investment projects have been handled, of which: 48 have benefited from strategic status. The tourism industry is the preferred sector where the largest number of these projects is concentrated.
Almost half of the proposals have been given the "green light", 14 have been rejected for various reasons and the same number are currently in the review process. This is the balance in eight years of the law on strategic investments, including foreign ones approved in 2015 with the fable " we give it for free, you build something ".
"At least British investors have not been able to find the appropriate environment and legal framework necessary to invest in Albania through this law, which I would say is incomplete," Zenel Hoxha from the British Chamber of Commerce told A2 CNN .
Most of the proposed and approved projects, about 85 percent, are in the field of tourism. The data show that the list of statuses given as "strategic investors" is followed by agriculture, energy, industry and development areas.
"Extending the deadlines for the fifth time is not a solution. The law needs radical changes and not patches", added Hoxha.
Adopted in 2015, the "Strategic Investments" law was introduced as a temporary measure by the government, initially with a deadline until 2018.
But his deadline was postponed two more times in the Assembly. All strategic investors are treated differently from other businesses, as they benefit from tax relief, fast administrative procedures or support programs. (A2 Televizion)
