Today, during the visit to Albania of the Vice-President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas, the agreement for the construction of the first phase of the Corridor VIII railway, in the Durrës-Rrogozhina segment, was signed.

The agreement was signed by the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, and representatives of the European Investment Bank, marking an important step towards the modernization of rail transport in the country.

"This project is a milestone for Albania and an important part of the great puzzle of European rail transport," said Deputy Prime Minister Balluku.

She added that this investment not only provides financial efficiency for citizens, but is also an environmentally friendly alternative. Balluku further informed that the Tirana-Durres railway is expected to be delivered within 2025, while in 2026 the electrification will be completed and the train stock for operation will be created.

Meanwhile, in 2025, construction of another key railway segment is expected to begin, the Vorë–Hani i Hotit section, which will strengthen regional connectivity and is expected to be completed in 2029.

Balluku further announced that during this year, the Albania-Kosovo national railway project will also be presented, with the main station in Shkodër and a direct connection to Gjakova.

"In the coming days we will also have a presentation of the national project, a project of great interest for the economic development of Albania and Kosovo. It is about the national railway, which will be presented in Shkodra, where the station from Shkodra to Gjakova will be located," said Balluku.

The Deputy Prime Minister further focused on the Durrës-Rrogozhina railway project, saying that it will be ready by 2025.

"The construction of this segment is expected to be delivered in 2028, followed by the Rrogozhina - Pogradec segment, which will be delivered in 2029," said Balluku.

The Minister expressed gratitude to the European Union and its delegation in Tirana for their continued support and cooperation. (A2 Televizion)
