"Disease-free", the government drafts a new law for animals, aiming

"Time mine" that seriously threatens the entire food safety chain. This is the conclusion of the government, which admits that Albania does not have a specific law on animal health. To correct this problem inherited from our past, a draft law "On Animal Health" has been submitted to the Parliament.

"This draft law aims to establish rules for the prevention and control of animal diseases that are transmissible to animals or humans, the organization of disease classification priorities, and the definition of responsibilities in the field of animal health," veterinary expert Edi Fero told A2 CNN.

The new legal basis aims to establish rules for the prevention and control of animal diseases that are transmissible to animals or humans, the prioritization of disease classification, and the definition of responsibilities in the field of animal health.

"The draft law takes into account climate impacts, food and feed safety, animal welfare, including the avoidance of any unnecessary pain, distress or suffering, antimicrobial resistance, as well as ensuring food supply, economic, social, cultural and environmental consequences," Fero added.

Food safety is the next test that Albania must pass... this as an effort to gain the trust of consumers and at the same time to obtain the approval of the European Union institutions.

"As a problem, it is found that Albania has regulations in the current legislation, which partially regulates animal health, but does not have a special and exhaustive law related to animal health. Precisely, this problem is solved by the drafting and approval of this draft law, by approximating the relevant acquis of the European Union", the expert underlined.

In order to guarantee food safety, an electronic system for traceability and data entry on the identification, registration, movement and control of animal diseases has been in place since 2012. According to the Supreme State Audit Office, these processes are almost impossible due to the lack of the necessary human resources budget. (A2 Televizion)
