Why is the euro rising? Banks and importers are buying currency to transfer

Banks and importers are the two main factors that have influenced the increase in the exchange rate in recent days. Market experts list these two factors that influenced the exchange rate of 1 euro to over 100 lekë.

"There is a withdrawal of euros in the market from some institutions that materialize their profit and transfer it since they had a large part in lek and turn it into euros. At the same time, there is also the effect of the withdrawal of euros from importers that operate with several cycles in their orders, and on the other hand, tourism that has influenced the massiveness of euros in these months is in decline," says economic expert Adrian Civici for A2 CNN.

Beyond the factors that are directly affecting it, according to experts, an IMF warning about the exchange rate has also had a psychological effect on market operators. "This is a warning, after all, economic and monetary operators act with expectations, feeling that something could happen, and act as if it has happened," says Civici.

But is this euro's upward trend expected to continue? "The increase is slight, it's been happening for 2-3 days, if we think there will be a change in direction or trend, there is no strong structural factor that would bring a fear of an increase in the exchange rate," says Civici.

Among the categories that would fear an increase in the euro are mainly individuals who have salaries in euros, but also those who have loans in euros and income in lek, who will have to pay more on their monthly installments. (A2 Televizion)
