US President Donald Trump's warnings about the application of tariffs against various countries, including the European Union, are expected to have an indirect impact on Kosovo.
Economic experts say there is little chance that tariffs will be applied to Kosovo itself due to the low dynamics of trade exchange, writes A2 CNN.
"We do not have a large export dynamic with the US, it is a measure of exports that we have and the chances are that America sees Kosovo as part of its sphere of influence and its official ally, the chances are that tariffs will not be imposed on Kosovo," says Emanuel Bajra, an economic expert.
The impact could be on the Kosovo diaspora, which with its remittances has a considerable impact on the Kosovo economy.
"The potential effects on the economy, in the region in general, will come from the effects it will have if Trump decides to impose tariffs on Germany, France, Italy and other surrounding countries, then the effects will also be in Kosovo. Because let's not forget that we have 1.4 billion euros in remittances coming from the diaspora and this will affect them," says the expert.
The economy could be used by the Trump administration to push Kosovo and Serbia towards an international agreement.
"They usually have an economic approach to solving problems, so they have the opportunity to push us to reach other agreements for infrastructure development with surrounding countries, especially with Serbia, which if this happens, we would benefit," Ilir Hajdini, an economic expert, told A2 CNN.
During Trump's first term in the White House, what is known as the Washington Agreement was signed, in which several infrastructure projects were secured, while Kosovo also gained recognition from Israel. (A2 Televizion)
