The Council of Ministers has not yet responded to the draft law proposed by Erion Braçe "On Value Added Tax in Agriculture".

In the Economy and Finance Committee, there was no shortage of high-pitched voices and a strong reaction from the MP who initiated the legal proposal, writes A2.

"It is shameful that the Minister of Finance does not come to confront us who are talking about an issue that affects 45% of citizens. This is a scandalous mockery! I will not allow anyone to come here to mock the work of MPs," said Braçe.

He pointed out that the Ministry of Finance was mocking him, while also referring to the "old grudge of the former minister" (referring to the fugitive Arben Ahmetaj), who, according to the MP, was afraid that Braçe would become Minister of Agriculture and would attack him.

"This concern was created by the Minister of Finance and was done in the most banal way possible, because the minister at the time (Arben Ahmetaj) was angry with Braçe, because he was afraid that I would become Minister of Agriculture. This mockery that is happening here is only that I proposed this, because if the minister had proposed it, it would have been approved directly," added Braçe.

The legislator even went so far as to say that "this was his last job for the session," causing surprise among his colleagues, given that politics has also been involved in the debate over the lists of deputies.

Jorida Tabaku, a DP MP, said: "I find it ridiculous, because we have been dealing with this issue for 6 years."

Representatives of the Ministry of Finance in the commission admitted that the institution is aware of the problems encountered on the ground. Florian Semani, Deputy Minister of Finance, stated: “But, since there are certain annexes, we will have a position very soon and then give the official position of the Ministry of Finance.”

Enkeleda Kuçi, director of tax policies at the Ministry of Finance, said: "The law we have in force is in partial compliance with the EU, a good part of the provisions are fully harmonized. Precisely because of the importance of this sector, we have requested EU assistance, for the purpose of the best possible treatment for a suitable scheme for the agricultural sector."

Socialist Braçe is calling for the repeal of the 2018 scheme, proposed by fugitive former minister Arben Ahmetaj, because it has harmed the agricultural sector. Currently, when a collector buys a product from a farmer, the VAT refund is 0 percent, while when he buys it from an import, 20 percent is refunded.

The initiative was initially discussed in the Economy Committee, with the agreement of the Ministry of Agriculture, then suspended by the CEC, but unblocked by the KAS.  (A2 Televizion)
