The elections kept the coffers full, the investments were not realized!

The May 11 elections curbed public investment in the country. Figures from the Ministry of Finance show that in the first 5 months of this year, 128 million euros of planned spending were not realized. In total, during this period, institutions in the country spent 2 billion 655 million euros, out of 2 billion 783 million euros that was the plan for this five-month period.

Institutions are restricted during the electoral period because they may conflict with the electoral code. Another reason for the failure to realize investments has to do with poor planning on the part of institutions, as happened last year, when most of the investments were made at the end of last year.

Meanwhile, this first period of the year has proven to be 'golden' for the state treasury, which is collecting millions of euros more than last year. From taxes and fees, 3 billion euros have been collected from January to the end of May, or about 187 million euros more than last year in the same period.

Given that the state treasury is taking in more money than it is spending, the surplus for this 5-month period has reached 400 million euros, reports the Ministry of Finance.

The tax administration alone has collected 1.1 billion euros during this period, with the largest share falling on employees. Due to the increase in salaries in the administration, the action against under-declared salaries and the submission of individual income tax returns (DIVA), income from payroll tax has reached 341 million euros, or 73 million euros more than last year in the same period. For this reason, income for social and health insurance has also increased, reaching 735 million euros.

The second largest contribution was made by the Value Added Tax, which is directly related to consumption. A total of 305 million euros were collected from VAT, or 73 million euros more than last year. Next are business profits. There are 285 million euros in revenue collected from profit tax, an increase of 8.9 million euros compared to last year.   (A2 Televizion)
