Appeal reduces sentence of former director of Gjirokastra Cadastre

The Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction in Tirana has found the former director of the Gjirokastra Cadastre, Florian Taçi, guilty, reducing his sentence from six to four years in prison.

Taçi is accused of two criminal offenses, fraud and forgery. The presiding judge of the court session, Valdete Hoxha, has decided to uphold the decision to sentence the official, changing only the sentence previously given by the Court of Fact in Gjirokastra, which had awarded him 6 years in prison and with a shortened trial after Taçi admitted that he had committed the criminal offenses and caused damage to citizens and the state.

Considering that Taçi requested a shortened trial, he will remain in prison for 2.8 years. From this, the time served at home, granted by the First Instance Court of Gjirokastra, is deducted, leaving the former director of the Gjirokastra Cadastre with more than 1.5 years left to serve in a regular security prison.

The execution order from the prosecutor in the case is expected any moment for Florian Taçi to enter the prison cell for the first time to serve the remaining 1.8 years in prison, while until now he has served his sentence in his apartment.

Meanwhile, for his close associate in illegal affairs, Alban Memisha, the sentence of 4 years in prison was upheld, but he will serve 2.5 years in prison due to the summary trial.

Meanwhile, Julian Nakuçi, for whom the Court of First Instance in Gjirokastra had issued a decision to impose an 8-month mandatory appearance, was acquitted of the charges.

Florian Taçi, the former head of the Cadastre in Gjirokastra, and Alban Memisha, an employee of this institution, were arrested in flagrante delicto in a flash action on February 28, 2024 after they were found compiling forged land deeds in the office of the former official at the Gjirokastra District Police.

Taçi had full access to the central server of the Albanian Cadastre, from where he penetrated with proofs of ownership, granting properties with digital seals to other people. (A2 Televizion)
