Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj was arrested this Monday by order of SPAK. The Special Prosecution Office was conducting investigations against Veliaj on several charges, such as abuse of office, active corruption, passive corruption, failure to declare assets and money laundering.
The security measure "prison arrest" has been approved for Veliaj. It is also learned that the Court has approved the security measure "house arrest" for Veliaj's wife, Ajola Xoxaj.
National Bureau of Investigation officials have conducted several searches at the business premises of Veliaj's wife, Ajola Xoxa, and his brother, Arbi Veliaj.
