This afternoon, the former leader of the Durrës gang, Lul Berisha, is expected to be extradited to our country.
Despite Lulzim Berisha opposing his extradition, claiming that his life was in danger in Albania, the Spanish National Court decided to accept the request of the Albanian authorities for his extradition and to face Albanian justice.
Lulzim Berisha was arrested in Spain on December 14, 2023. He was living in Alicante under a false identity.
In December 2021, the Supreme Court ruled that Lulzim Berisha, former leader of the Durrës Gang, must return to prison to serve another 5 years of his sentence. The Supreme Court's ruling overturned the Durrës Court of Appeal's decision, which had ordered Berisha's release from prison and the remainder of his sentence to be served on probation.
Berisha must serve the remaining 5 years of his sentence, having been convicted as the former leader of the Durrës Gang. He was initially sentenced to life imprisonment, but upon sending the file to the High Court, the sentence was reduced to 25 years in prison.
Berisha then began a battle with the justice system to be released. In 2016, the Durrës Court of Appeal accepted his request to continue serving the remainder of his sentence on probation.
1 year after his release, SPAK requested his arrest, as he is suspected of being involved in the murder of Klodian Saliu and Vajdin Lamaj in 2005. (A2 Televizion)
