The Special Court decided not to return the seized phone to Ajola Xoxes, the wife of the mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, nor the items seized from the apartment and companies of his brother, Arbër Veliaj.
The objections of both were examined in a process presided over by judge Atalanta Zeqiri. The mayor's relatives requested the return of the seized items claiming that they had been administered by the agents of the National Bureau of Investigation in violation of the legal provisions.
Their claims did not convince the court, which decided to reject the two requests.
BKH agents executed on December 6 the decision of the Special Court for the personal search of the wife of the mayor Veliaj and his brother, as well as several other persons, on account of an investigation by SPAK for the criminal offense of "passive corruption of high officials state".
The same decision allowed the control of some apartments of Arbë Veliaj, some office premises of companies and NGOs, of the mayor's family members, but also of 4 other people.
The checks carried out were aimed at discovering and managing documentary and electronic evidence, such as mobile phone devices, laptops or personal computers.
The checks in question were requested by SPAK after suspicions that close members of the family of Mayor Veliaj have received illegal benefits through companies and individuals that have direct interests in the Municipality of Tirana. (A2 Televizion)
