Taulant Tushe, a former official of the capital's municipality, defendant in the Tirana incinerator case, pleaded not guilty in the Special Court. Through a letter read in the courtroom by his lawyers, in a room where he was not present, Tushe claimed that he had been imprisoned without trial.
"I have been imprisoned without trial. Regarding the waste process, I and the Municipality of Tirana have tried to do our best. Regarding this concession, there was no complaint at the Public Procurement Agency. We, as the Municipality, did our duty as far as it was concerned. With this standard that you have set, other administration employees may feel endangered and afraid. I ask to be declared innocent," his letter read.
Next, Tushe's lawyers claimed that SPAK had raised a false story in the file against their client.
The trial of eight defendants for the Tirana incinerator in the Special Court is in the defense conclusions phase.
A few weeks ago, during the reading of the indictment, SPAK demanded guilt for all defendants and prison sentences for them, including the former Minister of Environment, Lefter Koka.
For this file, 10 people are being tried, including former minister Lefter Koka, for whom SPAK, in its February 7 complaint, requested a total of 26 years in prison.
For the former minister, 4 years of imprisonment were requested, while for the former Secretary General of the Ministry of Environment Alqi Bllako, accused of corruption of high-ranking officials in two cases, SPAK is requesting 5 years in prison and 5 years of exclusion from all public functions.
