"Active corruption in elections", GJKKO gives 1 year in prison to the

The mayor of Rrogozhina, Edison Memolla, arrived at the Special Court on Friday as a defendant for “active corruption in elections”, for which SPAK had requested a guilty plea. His attempt to convince the court otherwise proved unsuccessful. A few hours later he left the court with the burden of guilt on his shoulders.

The trio of special judges Flojera Davidhi, Erion Bani and Elsa Ulliri decided to sentence Memolla to 1 year in prison and an additional sentence of deprivation of the right to exercise public functions for a period of 5 years.

His three co-defendants were also found guilty of "election corruption", but also of "forgery of documents". Only for defendant Isuf Tosku did the court decide to convert the prison sentence to probation.

According to SPAK, while he was a candidate for mayor in Rrogozhina in the 2022 local by-elections, Edison Memolla influenced co-defendant Blerim Xhamani not to cut off electricity to a debtor subscriber in exchange for a vote in his favor.

According to SPAK, Memolla also communicated with the same person about employment in the Rrogozhina Municipality in exchange for votes. The investigation proved that the defendant Ndriçim Tafxhafa promised a citizen in Rrogozhina repayment of obligations to OSHEE and housing, in order to have her vote.

Referring to the SPAK investigation, the defendants Xhamani and Tosku falsified the data in the electricity disconnection report by presenting false data, as they did not actually disconnect the electricity to the debtor subscriber. (A2 Televizion)
