Monika Kryemadhi appeared before SPAK this Monday, A2 CNN reports. She and her husband, Ilir Meta, are under investigation by SPAK for the criminal offense of "corruption of high-ranking state officials", "money laundering" and "concealment and failure to declare assets".
Both Meta and Kryemadhi have appealed to the High Court to overturn the security measures adopted against them, requiring Kryemadhi to appear before it, and ordering Meta to be imprisoned.
After filing the appeal, Meta's lawyer, Genc Gjokutaj, said that he has asked the Supreme Court to annul the measure issued by the two lower courts, claiming that the former President of the Republic is being held in detention without any evidence.
According to the lawyer, among the arguments for Meta's release was also listed the need to participate in the electoral campaign before May 11. Gjokutaj said that the Supreme Court must show integrity, which according to him it has not shown to date, and that after exhausting domestic courts, if necessary, they will also knock in Strasbourg.
