The absence of the lawyer of the former minister, Ilir Beqaj, was the reason for the postponement of the case against him and his co-defendants in the "Sterilization" case.
Etë Beqaj was present in the courtroom, while his lawyer asked the court via email to postpone the trial. Lawyer Ermal Yzeira informed the court that he is in another trial and is unable to be present at the sterilization trial, writes A2 CNN.
Defendant Beqaj said he would try to find a second lawyer so that the trial would not be postponed any further. The court decided to fine the former minister's lawyer 30,000 lek for his absence and appointed another lawyer primarily for him. The hearing was postponed to April 30 at 1:00 p.m.
Upon returning to the courtroom, the lawyers claimed that they have contacted the National Bar Association, which will issue a statement on the situation, and that they will not continue the trial.
The lawyers asked the court to take measures against the prosecutor and to notify the head of SPAK, writes A2 CNN.
