KLP annual report, "holes" in the system, out of 341 prosecutors only

Not only the vetting process, but also departures upon reaching retirement age, or requests for resignation, have created a significant gap in the prosecution system.

During 2024, out of a total of 341 prosecutors, foreseen in the organizational structure of the prosecution offices in the country, only 220 of them have been in office, reports A2 CNN.

121 positions in the system were vacant, almost 35% of the total. The worrying figures are reflected in the report of the High Prosecutorial Council for last year, recently submitted to the Assembly of the Republic.

According to the prosecutors' government, filling vacancies in the system has been the main objective for 2024, also due to the changes caused by the implementation of the new judicial map.

Of the legal mechanisms for filling vacancies, the most frequent was that of temporary appointment, in 36 cases. This procedure, according to the KLP, was implemented to guarantee the functionality of prosecutorial offices, which, due to the emergencies created, were placed in conditions of impossibility to exercise their normal activity.

In 23 other cases, the situation of the empty system was helped by the appointment and assignment to duty of 23 Magistrate students who graduated in 2024. Meanwhile, when the system had 35% fewer prosecutors than the organic number, last year 19 prosecutors were seconded outside the system, as assistant magistrates in the General Prosecutor's Office and members of the KLP.

In the report submitted to the Assembly, the KLP claims to have addressed the problem caused by vacancies in the system, guaranteeing the functionality of each prosecutor's office. During 2025, the Magistrates' School is expected to graduate 26 magistrates with the prosecutor profile. (A2 Televizion)
