Ajola Xoxa, the wife of the mayor of Tirana, has made the next move against the court decision, which allowed SPAK to search her on December 6, 2024, where her mobile phone was seized. After failing to overturn this decision in the Special Appeal, Xoxa has "knocked" on the High Court, where she has filed a recourse against the Appeal decision. Sources at the Special Court indicate that the decision in question has also been appealed by Veliaj's brother, Arbër Veliaj, whose apartments and businesses were searched in implementation of the same court decision. The mayor's family members are requesting the annulment of the Appeal decision and the return of the seized items, claiming that they were administered by BKH agents in violation of legal provisions.
The decision that subsequently led BKH agents to Mayor Veliaj's apartment, apartments owned by his brother, offices of commercial companies or NGOs administered by his wife, but also 4 other people, was signed on December 5.
The checks aimed to discover and manage written evidence, or electronic devices, following suspicions that close members of Mayor Veliaj's family have received illegal benefits through companies and individuals with direct interests in the Municipality of Tirana. SPAK's investigation into Mayor Veliaj and his close associates has not yet registered the names of persons under investigation.
But this investigation is being conducted on suspicions of "active and passive corruption of local elected officials", "money laundering" and "hiding of assets".
A few days ago, Ajola Xoxa challenged another decision in the Special Court, which allowed a search on January 14 in an apartment near her offices in the former block area. (A2 Televizion)
