Tirana Police Director, Elton Alushi, said that the General Directorate of the State Police is preparing a response for the Special Prosecution Office regarding the lack of law enforcement at the rally organized by supporters of Mayor Erion Veliaj, while the security measures provided for it were being assessed, writes A2 CNN.
"The response is being prepared by the Director General of Police, we will send you a letter as soon as it is sent," Alushi said at a media conference while reporting on an anti-drug operation in the capital.
SPAK said that it had requested, through an official letter, the Ministry of Interior to hold accountable the persons who prevented the State Police from acting to maintain order and security during the rally of the mayor's supporters.
The Special Court has called the behavior of the State Police unprecedented in the case of the protest organized by supporters of the Mayor, Erion Veliaj, in front of its building, while a session to assess security measures was taking place inside. The Special Court says that the Republic Guard has repeatedly requested support from the State Police to guarantee order and security in front of the Court and SPAK buildings, but has encountered a lack of reaction from the State Police.
Asked about the actions of the State Police, the Minister of Interior, Ervin Hoxha, said that the police did not intervene to disperse the supporters of the Mayor, since, according to him, they were sympathizers, writes A2 CNN. "There is a planned and planned service there. This is a duty that is done every day. Even in other cases there have been announced gatherings in the form of protests. They were sympathizers. The State Police takes measures to secure the Special Prosecutor's Office. They had difficulties because there was a sudden gathering of sympathizers, not protesters," said Hoxhaj before entering Parliament last Thursday.
Hundreds of Erion Veliaj's supporters, including famous artists and athletes in the country, gathered in front of the Special Court building and remained there until the decision was made on security measures against Mayor Veliaj, his wife, Ajola Xoxa, and businessmen accused of being involved in a corruption scheme. Veliaj and Xoxa are also accused of money laundering and concealing assets.
The security measure of imprisonment was confirmed for the Mayor of Tirana, while a more relaxed security measure was given to his wife, from house arrest to mandatory reporting. (A2 Televizion)
