A photo has emerged of the young Filipino man suspected of killing 22-year-old Albanian Ilaria Sula, who was found dead today after being reported missing for several days.
According to foreign media, her body was found this morning in a wooded area near the municipality of Poli, about 40 kilometers from Rome.
The main suspect in the murder is her boyfriend, Mark Samson, a 23-year-old of Filipino origin. Italian authorities have detained him and are questioning him on serious charges of premeditated murder and concealment of the body. According to preliminary investigations, he is suspected of stabbing Ilaria several times in his apartment on Via Homs, in the Africano district of Rome, and then trying to dispose of the body.
A serious detail that has helped the investigation is the fact that, after the murder, Samson continued to use Ilaria's phone to send messages and post on social networks, creating the idea that she was still alive. The phone records have helped the police discover the truth and place him at the center of suspicion, writes "La Repubblica", reported A2 CNN.
Ilaria was a student at the Faculty of Statistical Sciences at the Sapienza University of Rome and lived in an apartment with her friends in the San Lorenzo neighborhood. On the evening of March 25, she left home without giving any explanation and never returned. Her family in Terni raised the alarm and the Italian police immediately launched a search.
The university's rector, Antonella Polimeni, described the incident as a horrific murder that has left everyone speechless. "In this moment of pain, we stand with Ilaria's family and our entire student community," she said.
