The historic performance of Maria Callas is "revived" in the new film

New movie "

, Paris 1958”, transports the audience to a December night at the Paris Opera, when Maria Callas made her debut in the French capital. 65 years later, the triumphant performance returns in color, picture and quality sound for the first time, following a painstaking restoration process by producer Tom Wolf and his team. Attended by then French President Charles de Gaulle, and stars of the day, including Charlie Chaplin and Brigitte Bardot, as well as the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, the three-hour performance was broadcast live on television and is considered one of the best performances of Callas.

Newspapers described it as "the greatest spectacle in the world". An incredible job has been done to bring the images to 4k, ultra HD and full color, making it as vivid as if it was shot last month. The gala recital covered a wide repertoire of Callas and included pieces from operas such as "Casta Diva" Norma, "Miserere", from Verdi's Iltrovatore and a complete performance of Tosca.

Volf, who has dedicated the past 10 years to protecting and promoting Callas' legacy, secured the original footage two years ago. The color restoration offers, according to him, a close look at the soprano's facial gestures and habits and the shape of her musical theater. Born in New York in 1923 to Greek parents, Maria Callasi was credited with reviving the Italian Bel Canto technique.

She died in 1977 at the age of 53 as a result of a heart attack. The release of the film coincides with the 100th anniversary of the artist's birth and the news that Angelina Joel will portray her in a film by Chilean director Pablo Larrain. (A2 Televizion)
