Envelopes containing ballots for immigrants in Greece are not being distributed according to the law. This is the concern raised for several days by the Democratic Party, which has also put the Central Election Commission in motion.

Through a letter sent to the CEC address and signed by the legal representative of the DP, Franc Nuri, the Democrats list the violations that they believe are occurring in the voting process in the neighboring country.

The problem lies with DHL, which has subcontracted local companies in Greece, which are not sending envelopes to each voter's home, but rather requiring citizens to appear in person at post offices to collect the material.

"In Greece, for weeks now, we have had reports that envelopes with ballots are not being delivered to citizens in their homes, but are often being taken in an organized manner by certain individuals who may appear at postal points (whether official or underpaid, such as betting offices or building entrances), using rented cars with Albanian license plates to avoid traces. These suspected persons, linked to the Socialist Party and its structures, are reported to have collected envelopes with ballots, which is totally prohibited and criminally punishable," the DP's letter to the CEC states.

The concerns raised by the opposition have not been welcomed by the head of government, who has called the problems faced by Albanian immigrants in Greece a cry and a dirtying of the process. At first, Edi Rama reacted with a selfie video, where, while calling on immigrants to go and collect their envelopes at the post office, he points fingers at the opposition.

"You have seen the cries of the tawny owl spread beyond the borders, warning of the great theft. One of the blue salamanders had taken out some envelopes on the street and claimed that they were envelopes seized I don't know how or from whom. The political leader for the diaspora has made a clarification that you can collect envelopes even from your own home and when you are a slave to the owl and your home turns into a swampy trench and you say that the regime does these things, but no one eats these things," said Prime Minister Rama.

But Rama didn't stop with this clarification. At the end of the video message, the head of government also made a post on social media where he also showed the addresses of post offices in Greece, places where immigrants can pick up envelopes, vote, and send them back there.

"All of you who live in Athens, Thessaloniki and anywhere in Greece, but not on the islands, keep in mind that from Monday, May 5th, until Friday, May 9th, DHL postal service points will operate with extended hours," Rama added.

This reality seems to have been accepted by the Democrats who are calling on citizens to go and pick up the envelopes themselves at the post office and send them to Albania themselves, but they publicly denounced other problems not only in Greece but also in Italy.

"We have cases where not only are the envelopes not delivered, they send an e-mail and tell them to come to the nearest point. Usually the nearest Speedex or Currier point and the nearest point is a betting point, and Albanians go, but they can't find the envelope there. They are told that their envelope is no longer here, even though they didn't receive it, and someone else went to get their envelope. We have cases like in Italy, where a lady who works at the embassy in Rome goes and collects the envelopes and delivers the envelopes illegally. Her name is Marjeta Mikeli and this is unbelievable," the DP political leader told Diaspora.

Meanwhile, the Democrats report that their complaints to SPAK have continued almost daily, but they demand that the special structure intervene primarily and act on any legal violations. (A2 Televizion)
