Sali Berisha requested votes in the Assembly for Besim Ndregjoni, the opposition's proposal for Ombudsman. However, Niko Peleshi stated that the consultation process was lacking and the parties agreed to remove the vote for Ombudsman from the agenda.
"I invite the assembly to unite its votes to pass as representatives of the People's Advocate, Besim Ndregjoni, who represents the large group of politically persecuted people," said Berisha.
"We know and we all know the tradition of electing the Ombudsman, which is up to the Assembly to choose, but the proposals belong to the opposition and are discussed to reach a consensual name. We must give seriousness to the process. We do not have a political decision, as long as this process has been lacking, if we do not have a result for a certain name, I invite the opposition to build the process as is the tradition to reach a consensus on a name. We are not against any name, let's build the process and talk about your proposals", declared socialist Peleshi.
Berisha replied: "If the problem requires more in-depth consultation, don't put it to the vote. Let's do the consultation and come vote. We have full confidence that that candidate honors that position." (A2 Televizion)
