Socialist Etjen Xhafaj insisted on A2 CNN with journalist Andrea Danglli that Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj is innocent of the charges brought against him.
Invited to "Off the Record", MP Xhafaj also commented on the details of the file on the mayor, casting doubt on the real motives behind why Erion Veliaj's file was published in the media.
"I don't deal with the amounts politicians' wives spend on clothing. The lady had an agency for promotions, video clips, and I don't deal with expenses of this kind. I don't deal with the tickets from 2004, when Erioni was not an official. I'm not saying that the new justice system should not try him, but rather set him free, taking his passport, just like the leader of the opposition.
"For me, the former president should be tried at large. We do not have a single page from the file of these two people and the entire file for Erion Veliaj. We only know the issues, but not the details. For Veliaj, we know the 366-page file," said Xhafaj. (A2 Televizion)
