The Constitutional Court decided to close the debate on the duration of the mandates of its members.
But this decision by the Constitutional Court was not well received by Democrats, writes A2 CNN.
The head of the Parliamentary Group, Gazment Bardhi, through a public reaction, claims that the independence of the Constitutional Court is essential for guaranteeing the rule of law, but the majority, according to him, is aiming to keep this institution destabilized.
"This game that has been going on for months now, while the Constitution and the organic law are quite clear: Apart from two judges (Holta Zaçaj - 2025 and Sandër Beci - 2028), the Constitution and the law have provided for a full 9-year mandate for all other constitutional judges," said Bardhi.
According to the leader of the DP deputies, any different reading of the Constitution and the law is seriously violating the independence and impartiality of constitutional judges.
"This constitutes a clear attempt to capture and place under the political control of the majority the supreme guardian of the Constitution, the Constitutional Court. And this is undoubtedly an attempt to annihilate the Constitution itself!", Bardhi continued.
The Constitutional Court's decision to end Holta Zaçaj's mandate also seems to affect the determination of the terms of the mandates of the other two members, Sonila Bejtja and Elsa Toksa, who are also due to end their work in 2025. (A2 Televizion)
