As the vote counting process continues in the Tirana district, data so far shows a significant decline in the chances of Ilir Meta, the leader of the Freedom Party, currently in detention, securing a mandate as a deputy in the new Parliament.
With about 30% of ballot boxes counted in the Tirana district, the Democratic Party and ASHM have secured 14 mandates, including 12 names from the closed list and two others expected to be determined from the open list through preferential voting.
According to official data, in the Vora area where electronic counting was also conducted, Ilir Meta received only 94 preferential votes, ranking 11th on the list, while in Unit No. 10 he received 246 votes, ranking third.
If this trend continues in the remaining ballot boxes, it appears that Meta's parliamentary career will be interrupted for the first time in decades in Albanian politics. (A2 Televizion)
