Having just returned from meetings in Brussels, Prime Minister Edi Rama shared his optimism for Albania's European path with members of the National Diaspora Council in Tirana.
"Our joint strategic plan with the European Commission to complete the negotiations for membership with the European Union within the year 2027 and to pave the way for the ratification of Albania's membership in the parliaments of the member countries. What makes us strongly believe that our ambition is to bring Albania up to 2030".
To get the 4th mandate, the diaspora will also play an important role, since for the first time on May 11, 2025, immigrants will vote from the country they remember. Process, which, according to the majority leader, was not only a political challenge.
"We stand today with our heads held high in front of all Albanians abroad for one reason, which is now a mission accomplished, at least as far as we are concerned, the vote of the Diaspora. Not an easy mission for the sake of truth. A mission that is linked to a will that goes beyond party divisions and that requires a greater vote in number than that of a ruling majority".
The prime minister asked the foreign and interior ministers to set in motion the mechanism to equip Albanians in Germany with passports, after the change in the law in this country to allow dual citizenship.
"Until yesterday, he forced the Albanians in Germany to renounce their Albanian citizenship in order to obtain German citizenship. In the conditions where this change has taken place, there is a considerable number of Albanians who are seeking to regain their Albanian citizenship, and for this the Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of the Interior must guarantee a quick service.
According to the government, Albania is negotiating 8 more pension agreements, although Athens still remains a difficult challenge for the official Tirana. Albanians from Greece, Italy and the USA are the ones who bring more remittances to their homeland, where according to Rama, in 2024 there were 100 million euros more transfers than the year before.
